Response to Follow-up to the European Citizens’ Initiative “Fur Free Europe”

Veterinary Ireland is the representative body for veterinary practitioners in Ireland. Through its Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) it provides advice and guidance on animal welfare matters. Veterinary Ireland's 2018 Policy document, on Fur Farming, is presented as Veterinary Ireland's contribution to this consultation process, for consideration as being directly relevant to the matter of the "Fur Free Europe" initiative. This Policy Document is available on the "Policies" Section of the Veterinary Ireland Website (www.veterinaryireland.ie) and is also attached as part of this submission.

Response to Modernisation of the EU legislation for on-farm animal welfare for certain animals

Veterinary Ireland is the representative body for veterinary practitioners in Ireland. Through its Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) it provides advice and guidance on animal welfare matters. Veterinary Ireland's latest Policy document on Intensive Livestock Farming 2024, is presented as Veterinary Ireland's contribution to this consultation process, for consideration as being directly relevant to the modernisation of EU legislation in the regard of on-farm animal welfare for certain animals. Response to Professional qualifications recognition of veterinary surgeons - training requirements update

Veterinary Ireland is the representative body for Veterinary Practitioners in Ireland, including veterinary colleagues engaged in Education and Research. Veterinary Ireland fully supports the proposed amendments to Directive 2005/36/EC, as put forward by the European Coordinating Committee on Veterinary Training (ECCVT). Specifically, some of the components of the current Directive include subject titles that don't match to a modern veterinary degree curriculum, nor does it include many aspects of what Accreditors look for in educational establishments. The changes that are included in the ECCVT document reflect the modern veterinary curriculum and the current expectations of ESEVT visitations and SOPs. Accordingly, Veterinary Ireland recommends the adoption of the proposed changes.
