Response to Retail Investment Package

We strongly welcome the efforts of the EU Commission to significantly improve the situation for household investors in Europe. The background to this is that private households in Europe invest significantly less in the capital markets than in other countries. Why is it important for households to invest and participate in the capital markets? Companies go public to raise money for their further developments. In Europe, many companies are financed exclusively by banks when they want to start up, expand or invest. As a result, companies are less able to diversify the loans they need than they would be if they used investor communities. And vice versa the profits generated by these companies flow primarily back to the banks, and households in the EU hardly share in the economic successes of the companies. Private wealth accumulation and private retirement provision are playing an increasingly important role in Europe. It is therefore important that private households have more opportunities than before to build up their assets with the help of the European capital markets. As the EU Commission points out the vast majority of private households avoids investments in capital markets due to a profound lack of confindence in the markets. Thats why we call the EU Commission : 1. To replace the term "retail investor" with the term "household investor". 2. To immediately take effective measures against the exorbitantly high rate of settlement fails in the EU under the planned "Retail Investor Directive". 3. To immediately and fully implement the ban on Payment-for-order-flow in the EU without any exceptions. Our detailed positions for the 3 demands can be found in the attached document.
