To simplify and update the existing EU specific damage stability standards for ro-ro passenger ships, this initiative aims to align Directive 2003/25/EC with the new international standards. Based on an EU proposal to the International Maritime Organization in 2015, the set of increased international standard was adopted which entered into force in 2020 (SOLAS 2020). Following this decision on the international level, the applicable EU damage stability requirements would also be revised.
