The Resolution 74/247 of the United Nations General Assembly of 27/12/2019 on ‘Countering the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes’ establishes a committee to elaborate an international Convention in this area. In order to ensure a common EU approach and consistency of a future convention with current and future EU law in the area of cybercrime and the protection of fundamental rights, it is appropriate for the EU to engage in and conduct the negotiations.
