European Strategy on international energy engagement

Energy

The EU will become carbon-neutral by 2050. Global energy systems contribute significantly to emissions and decarbonising them is essential to address climate change. Since the EU is only responsible for 9% of global emissions, the advocacy of this transition forms an important part of the EU’s external energy policy under the European Green Deal. The EU will reshape its energy diplomacy to strengthen the access to sustainable, affordable and secure energy supplies under changing circumstances.
