Increasing transport of goods by rail is essential to the EU’s efforts to make transport more sustainable and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Nevertheless, growth of rail freight, in particular at international level, is held back by its lack of competitiveness and in this context the Commission will evaluate the Regulation establishing rail freight corridors across Europe.
