In order to reflect better the current EU’s strategic interests towards the Gulf region, the initiative aims to upgrade the EU’s institutional bilateral relations with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi-Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, by creating comprehensive legal frameworks to facilitate cooperation in priority areas identified in the Joint Communication on a Strategic Partnership with the Gulf (May 2022).
