The Council is asked for a negotiating mandate to update and enhance the 1996 EU – Uzbekistan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, responding to a request by the Uzbek Government. The negotiation process would aim at supporting the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, in particular steps to improve the business environment, governance, human rights and regional cooperation. It would broaden and strengthen EU relations with the country and contribute to prosperity and stability in the region.
