The Event Data Recorder (EDR) is already mandatory for new types of passenger cars and vans. The GSR requires the Commission to adopt EDR technical requirements and the test procedures with regard to heavy duty vehicles to become applicable to new types as from January 2026. It will help to obtain more accurate and complete accidentology data for accident research and analysis. Thus, this initiative sets out the relevant requirements for the approval of M2, M3, N2 and N3 with regard to EDR.
