Response to Rationalisation of reporting requirements

1 Dec 2023

Allwyn is a leading multi-national lottery operator with significant scale. We operate lotteries in a number of countries in Europe and North America, including Austria, Czech Republic, Greece and Cyprus, Italy, UK and the United States (Illinois). We primarily focus on lotteries, including draw-based and instant-win lottery games, and distribute our products through both physical retail and online channels. We leverage our strong lottery brands, large customer base and extensive physical retail and online distribution networks to provide other entertainment offerings, including sports betting, online instantwin games, iGaming and video lottery terminals (VLTs) as a lottery-led entertainment platform. With regard to the European Commissions initiative aiming at identifying the most inefficient and burdensome reporting requirements for businesses and Member States and looking for ways how to rationalise them, we would like to share the following comments: EU legislation is increasingly complex and affects several areas of business operations, increasing administrative burden and costs, with a considerable impact on European business competitiveness. Implementation shall take into account the need for businesses to adapt and provide for adequate time. Reporting requirements such as those required by CSRD or Taxonomy alignment, should be relevant for a given sector and take into account its specificity. Reporting requirements shall be consistent across the applicable legislation and be mandated only once. Reporting standards should be aligned to international reporting standards, deviations increase the level of complexity; the EU should avoid creating new systems when alternative, long standing frameworks already exist. The once only principle should be applied as default, with updates to be provided only as necessary. We look forward to contribution to further discussions on this matter.
