Response to Gender Equality Strategy 2026-2030

Europe cannot prosper in peace without overcoming the deeply rooted bias that power is to be exercized over others, rather than jointly with others, united despite differences. Todays major threats - violence&war and climate crises- are all rooted in a power-over mindset. Gender equality provides a much needed transformation of this mindset, laying the grounds for ballanced power and cooperation, but it is vital that efforts involve men and boys. Gender inequalities combined with other forms of discrimination have huge economic and social costs. In terms of access to decision-making and resources, there is still a big disparity leaving women and other discriminated groups behind, but in terms of mental health and awareness about relational wellbeing, men are at a great disadvantage today, precisely due to gender stereotypes that require them to disconnect from much of their humanity. Male violence toward women and other vulnerable groups (children included) is a huge cost to every local community and it is pervasive in new medias too. Teaching men and boys healthy relationships in both private and public spheres should be a priority.
