11 Feb 2020
I'm writing as Regional Coordinator of BPW Europe - EU Transparency Register 8363922015840 - 91 - one of the Five Regions of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women. BPW International) was founded by Dr. Lena Madesin Phillips in 1930 in Geneva. BPW Europe has 11.000 members and 30 Affiliate Countries..
During the last 8 decades BPW International has become one of the most influential international NGOs with Affiliates in 107 Countries in five continents. Its members include influential women leaders, entrepreneurs, business owners, executives, professionals and young career women through all industries. BPW has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1947 and participatory status with the Council of Europe.
Aims: To develop the Professional and Leadership Potential for Women at all levels - Ambition: Equal Participation of Women and Men in Power and Decision-Making Roles
Most important campaigns - The Equal Pay Day campaign - Women's accounts are in the red - In the European Union, the average Gender Pay Gap is 16 % . Women above 65 are also the population most at risk of falling in poverty - as they earned less, they have also lower pensions. The Federations and A ssociate clubs of Europe (14 Federations an 24 Affiliate Clubs) have been running this campaign for the past years since 2008 and will continue to do so in the coming years. .Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs)
Launched on International Women's Day, the Women's Empowerment Principles-Equality Means Business suggests seven steps for companies to take to empower women in the workplace and the market place. They were launched by the United Nations Development Fund For Women (UNIFEM, part of UN Women) and the United Nations Global Compact on March 8th, 2010 based on a multi-stakeholder consultative process.
Several of our Federations and clubs have organized WEPs events to promote the WEPs and to receive signatures from CEOs for the implementation of measures within their companies.
The WEPs
1. Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality.
2. Treat all women and men fairly at work respect and support human rights and non-discrimination
3. Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men worker
4. Promote education, training and professional development for women.
5. Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women.
6. Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
7. Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality
Another important goal, in the matter of violence aginst women is the Project CHARTER OF THE GIRL?S RIGTHS
Inspired by the UN Convention on the Child Rights of 1989, in contrast to this Convention, which equalizes the two genders but also integrating it, the Charter for Little Girl’s Rights sets them apart in terms of characteristics and needs, having regard to the different physical and emotional features.
The Charter must be read as a fundamental introduction to the assertion and protection of women's rights from their birth. The little girl must be helped, protected since birth and educated so that she can grow in full awareness of her rights and duties, against any form of discrimination.
Another BPW Campaign is Boards with women , involving Federations and Clubs about this issue ; many countries approved laws to ensure the presence of women on the Boards of Directors of listed and investee companies .
These topics and the great movement of opinion on the fundamental values of a civil society have been able to achieve excellent results thanks to the strong collaborations and partnerships with major institutional agencies

and many others.
