Response to Common procedures and rules for access by competent authorities to electronic freight transport information (eFTI)

21 Nov 2023

The Institute of Export & International Trade is a professional membership body representing and supporting the interests of everyone involved in importing, exporting and international trade. Our mission is to improve the efficiency of international trade, both by providing members with expert training and by acting as a trusted interlocutor between the export sector and wider market participants. IOE&IT draws extensively on the experience of our over 7,000 members, and wider community of over 30,000 businesses, to work with policy makers to build sustainable and competitive export markets. The IOE&IT welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on a draft for a Commission Implementation Regulation on Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 of the European Parliament and the Council. The IOE&IT has long supported efforts to digitise electronic freight transport information and welcomes the progress being made in the European Union. To this end, the IOE&IT are generally supportive of the submission of IOTA Foundation (https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/13661-Electronic-freight-transport-information-eFTI-procedures-and-access-rules-for-competent-authorities/F3444187_en) and in particular highlights the importance of making information accessible to all participants involved in a particular supply chain and ensuring that the eFTI standards are in line with already existing international standards such as UN/CEFACT or UN UNCITRAL MLETR.

Response to New Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean

9 Feb 2023

The Institute of Export & International Trade welcomes the opportunity to express the views on the New Agenda for EU relations with Latin America and Caribbean and supports the development of an enhanced programme for European Union - Latin America and the Caribbean relations. This will be a great step towards resolving common challenges and as an opportunity for development of international initiatives for climate change and digitalisation of trade. We offer our help and support to the EU and LAC to contribute to building of this agenda from an international trade perspective. We see the utilisation of EUs agreements with LAC, ratification of pending ones and implementation of accurate policies as main priorities to revitalise economies, encourage and boost inclusive growth. The global economic crisis and disruptions in supply chains caused by pandemic and war in Ukraine create issues with food security and businesses continuity in the LAC region, hence now, even more than ever, it is necessary to increase international cooperation between the regions. The EU and LAC should cooperate and implement regional and international policies consistent with its development objectives, digital paperless trade, green agenda, gender equality, and measures aiming at eradicating poverty.
