Response to Evaluation of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

3 Apr 2024

For our sector, Canada can be defined as a "new" territory, since it is only since 2017 that Parma Ham - thanks to the entry into force of the CETA agreement - can be marketed under that name. This possibility has also made it possible to implement promotion and communication activities, which have had positive feedback both on the safety of exports and on the knowledge and distinctiveness of the product on the market by Canadian consumers. Despite the fact that the need to safeguard the product remains concrete, the positive results obtained so far show that monitoring activities should be continued, especially through online controls and checks on the filing of any trademark applications conflicting with the PDO.
