Europump welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the EUs review of the Ecodesign measure for electric motors and variable speed drives. Since its adoption in 2019, the measure has delivered substantial energy savings, and our input aims to support further improvements in energy efficiency, technological innovation, environmental performance, and circular economy outcomes. Please find our detailed comments attached. We thank you for your consideration and remain at your disposal for any further questions

Europump, the European Association of Pump Manufacturers, was established in 1960. It represents 17 National Associations in 14 EU Member States, Turkey, Russia & Switzerland. Europump members represent more than 450 companies with a collective production worth more than €10 billion and employing 100,000 people in Europe. The ever improving performance of liquid pumps increases the productivity of end user sectors and contributes to competitiveness and growth.
Our comments to the proposed eco-design requirements for electric motors are attached.
Europump supports the work of the European Commission to review the Drinking Water Directive and approve the main conclusions on Article 10 stated in the evaluation report (dated 7 December 2016).
The inception impact assessment clearly highlights the unnecessary burden on and obstacles to the internal market created by the multiple testing and approval systems in several Member States.
One option identified is “3. proposing EU harmonized standards for materials and products in contact with drinking water”.
We understand this proposal should be read in a very generic manner since such harmonised standards will need a legal base in order to tackle the lack of harmonisation. The Construction Products Regulation is not an adequate or effective legal base. The study specifically on materials in contact with drinking water1 presents the situation in detail and should be considered.
Europump takes this opportunity to resubmit its position paper dated 2014 but which is still valid.
Europump will be pleased to support the Commission in future developments directly and via the European Drinking Water consortium.
