Response to Advanced driver distraction warning (ADDW) systems

We express our approval of the Draft Delegated Regulation on advanced driver distraction warning systems (ADDW) as an integral part of the General Safety Regulation. We support the provisions for periodic roadworthiness tests, especially the possibility to check the correct functionality and the software integrity of the system during the whole vehicle life cycle. This allows unauthorized manipulations or system deactivations to be detected early on. FSD aligns with the comments provided by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) and the German Road Safety Council (DVR) with respect to: The incompleteness of the areas covered, which require supplementary or expansive measures. The failure to consider the backward movement of the driver, which is pertinent to road safety. The duration of the warning period, which needs to be shortened in urban areas to ensure its effectiveness. In order to guarantee that the warning systems have a positive impact on road safety, it is imperative that these issues are incorporated into the implementing regulation.
