Response to Evaluation of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) 2017-2024

The International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI) is the global trade association representing the flavor industry. Our associations membership includes both companies and national and regional trade associations that produce and use flavoring ingredients. IOFI functions as the leading flavor industry science provider. In that role, IOFI has sponsored many scientific studies, produced and submitted several flavoring dossiers for review by EFSA Panels, and has been engaged in multiple hearings and other meetings with the EFSA Secretariat and EFSA Panels. IOFI is registered in the EU Transparency Register under the number 730122140412-58. The International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI) thus welcomes the opportunity to provide initial feedback regarding the performance of EFSA from 2017-2024. We hope that our observations are helpful for EFSA in considering how it conducts evaluations, formulates and publishes opinions, and promulgates guidance and other stakeholder documents. Our comments here will be brief, but we look forward to providing more expansive input during the planned Q3 2024 Public Consultation. Please see our comments, attached as a pdf file.
