Response to Evaluation of the Ship Recycling Regulation

29 Jun 2022

The International Ship Recycling Association has submitted a PDF- document regarding the evaluation of the EU SRR (1257/2013). Main findings: The goal of this regulation is to prevent illegal recycling of end of life EU-flagged ships. The Regulation contains several well equipped elements, amongst them clear and unambiguous technical requirements, but can not be identified as a succes, since illegal exports of EU flagged ships are still numerous. The lack of enforcement within the Member States contributes to this conclusion. Furthermore, ISRA is of the opinion that this Regulation must be evaluated against a global context and not solely be judged just within the goal of the Greendeal.
