Response to Savings and Investments Union

Klarna welcomes the European Commissions initiative to develop a European Savings and Investments Union (SIU). As a global payments network and shopping assistant, founded and headquartered in Sweden, Klarna is deeply committed to Europes economic competitiveness. We strongly support the SIUs short- and long term- objectives of fostering capital for innovation, unlocking digital finance, and ensuring that Europes financial sector remains globally competitive. At Klarna, we believe in building a future where innovation thrives, businesses flourish, and consumers win. Therefore, we support the Commissions simplification efforts as outlined in the publication of its Competitiveness Compass and Work Programme for 2025, notably for investments (Q2 2025) and small mid-caps (Q4 2025). We believe that these efforts, combined with targeted regulatory reform, will enhance access to finance, lower borrowing costs, and create a more consumer-friendly financial ecosystem across Europe. As described in our answer to the call for evidence below, Klarna fully supports the European Commissions efforts to enhance the European Unions (EU) competitiveness through the SIU and related initiatives. By actively reforming and simplifying regulations, harmonising frameworks, and improving data and AI transparency, the EU can foster a thriving innovation ecosystem that benefits businesses, consumers, and investors. Klarna stands ready to collaborate with the Commission and other stakeholders to advance these objectives, ensuring that Europe remains a global leader in digital finance and innovation.
