REN

REN aims to guarantee uninterrupted supply of electricity and natural gas at the lowest cost, meeting quality and safety criteria, maintaining the balance between supply and demand in real time, ensuring the legitimate interests of market participants and combining the missions of system operator and network operator assigned to it (electricity transmission, natural gas transmission and natural gas distribution), as well as the reception, storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas and the underground storage of natural gas.

Response to Revision of the EU’s energy security framework

13 Oct 2025

The current EU legal framework on energy security already seeks to reduce external dependence, increase internal resilience and promote cross-border coordination. However, it does not fully exploit the benefits of integrated planning across different energy sectors (only coordinated crisis scenarios), nor does it establish a systemic approach that holistically considers energy security, linking resilience (response to extreme events, physical infrastructure security, and cybersecurity) with resource adequacy planning (capacity, flexibility, inertia) and infrastructure planning (transmission networks, interconnections, storage, digitalization). Our response to the Call for Evidence is structured around the following themes: a) Sectoral integration b) Holistic approach to energy security (resource adequacy, infrastructure planning, and preventive action plans) c) System services markets d) Cybersecurity and physical security of critical infrastructure e) Development of interconnections f) Diversification of sources and development of renewable energy sources g) Energy efficiency as a structural strategic tool

Response to Electrification Action Plan

9 Oct 2025

REN appreciates the opportunity to contribute to this Call for Evidence dedicated to the European Commissions preparation of the Electrification Action Plan. As the operator of electricity and gas infrastructures, and future operator of hydrogen networks, REN advocates for an integrated, technology-neutral approach focused on economic efficiency and energy affordability for all consumers. Critical aspects to be considered in the Electrification Action Plan, further detailed in the annex: 1. Technological neutrality and systemic integration across energy carriers 2. Economic efficiency and affordable energy prices 3. Valorisation of existing assets and just transition 4. Flexibility, storage and integration of renewables 5. Security of supply and resilience 6. Regulation and tariff structure 7. Innovation, competitiveness and european value chain
