Response to Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy

The substantial reductions in transport-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions sought by the European Green Deal will require meaningful actions across multiple sectors, as highlighted in the European Commission's Roadmap on the EU Strategy for a Sustainable and Smart Mobility. Raytheon Technologies (RTX) is committed to supporting the goals of this EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility initiative. Raytheon Technologies, and its subsidiaries Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space and Collins Aerospace, have been working with the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), which represents the global aviation industry, and which became the world’s first industrial sector to set an ambitious target: reduce CO2 emissions to half of year 2005 levels by 2050, and to limit the growth of net CO2 emissions by 2020. Raytheon Technologies has been supportive of this initiative from ATAG which aligns with the direction of the European Green Deal objectives, and Raytheon Technologies is committed to supporting the ATAG goals through continuous advances in propulsion technology, as well as advanced navigation technologies that can optimize air traffic through optimal routing. These areas include (with more detail provided in our attachment): • Deploying state-of-the-art gas turbine engines with leading fuel economy; • Continuing to improve engine and aircraft fuel economy through new technologies; • Utilizing Sustainable Aviation Fuels, including hydrogen; • Improving aircraft fuel economy through optimal trajectory routing; • Reducing fuel consumption through more electric aircraft systems; • Reducing fuel consumption and GHG through lightweight materials; • Contributing to noise reduction goals. Raytheon Technologies remains committed to developing a sustainable Research and Innovation (R&I) agenda in support of achieving substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
