Response to Information and promotion measures for agricultural and food products in the internal market and in non-EU countries

4 Mar 2021

Response to Revision of EU marketing standards for agricultural products

16 Feb 2021

EGGS We can summarize our position with these points: 1) FREE RANGE_the limit of 16 weeks for housing restrictions to protect animal health: the time of 16 weeks is too short in our experience. It could be useful to harmonize the rules between similar systems (for example, aligning with the organic rule which foresees at least 1/3 of the life of hens outdoors); 2) SUSTAINABILITY_solar panel outdoor: we believe that the outdoor solar panel solution can be a very interesting way to produce renewable energy and provide shade and hiding places for animals; 3) UNFAIR COMPETITION: We believe it is important to highlight the information on the country where the eggs were produced to provide the consumer with better information and to enhance European productions which must comply with much stricter rules in terms of quality.; 4) END OF WASTE: we believe it could be useful to extend the shelf life of eggs taking into consideration all the improvements of the last years made both in terms of production and logistic conditions. 5) TRACEABILITY_Stamping/marking of eggs directly on the farm: it would be useful to have a uniform obligation at European level. If this is not possible, we believe it is important to give each Member State the possibility to provide for this obligation.

Response to New authorized inputs and extended derogation for non-organic pullets and non-organic protein feed in organic production

18 Nov 2020

Response to Fitness Check of the EU legislation on animal welfare

29 Jul 2020

Unaitalia believe that the general debate on animal welfare should be science based and consider all aspects involved in terms of sustainability and impact in the sector. Animal welfare legislation is a key asset in livestock management and should be consistent with biosecurity and health legislation in livestock production and should also take into account the economic impact on the sector in terms of trade policies, having in mind that poultry legislation in the EU is among the highest in the world, having an impact in terms of costs and competitiveness for the European producers. In such a context we hope that EFSA, asked to do a scientific update on current animal welfare legislation, will include sustainability thoughts in their evaluation since it is a fact that changes in animal welfare often would have a negative impact on climate and environment
