Response to Evaluation of the 2012 Directive on waste from electrical and electronic equipment

The Directive prevented too much divergence in national initiatives that could have occurred but the harmonization is partial and there are very high cost and burden for manufacturers to manage the scheme in each market. To some extent, it helped to improve recycling and traceability. However, the improvement is limited for collection and recycling rates of metallic products. In addition, it does not always encourage the best practice in terms of circular economy. In some countries, the application of WEEE does not give enough freedom to equipment manufacturers to develop the reuse of products and components.
