Autonomous Tariff Quotas Regulation

Maritime affairs and fisheries

Autonomous tariff quotas (ATQs) allow for partial suspensions of the normal duties on imports to spur the competition in favor of the EU. They guarantee access to raw materials not available in the EU in sufficient quantities and/or at competitive prices. They can be found in various industries, including in fisheries. The Commission is currently exploring, through an impact assessment, possibilities to enhance the sustainability dimension of this instrument and – at the same time - also planning to evaluate the functioning of the ATQ regime.
