First responders such as police officers, firefighters and emergency responders face barriers in communication when working together across borders. Due to requirements for their radios and smartphones, they cannot easily use them in other Member States. Therefore, the European Critical Communication System will link communication systems of first responders in the EU and Schengen area. This will facilitate their tasks and life-saving operations, while increasing resilience and strategic autonomy of the EU.
