Response to Digital Networks Act

Transatel urges the European Commission to approach the Digital Networks Act reforms with caution and strategic foresight. While we welcome the Commissions goals of full harmonisation and simplification, several proposed changes raise serious concerns. Expanding the EECCs objectives, weakening the Significant Market Power (SMP) framework, introducing Fair Share obligations, and failing to mandate fit-for-purpose wholesale access in spectrum licenses could undo decades of progress since the liberalisation of Europes telecom sector. These measures risk undermining competition, stifling innovation, weakening the Digital Single Market, and threatening Europes industrial strength and digital sovereignty. The current regulatory framework, built on the four core EECC objectives and the SMP framework, has proven to be adaptable, effective, and essential for fostering a dynamic and competitive telecom environment. Rather than dismantling these foundations, the EU should strengthen them to meet future challenges. A healthy digital ecosystem depends on fair access, open competition, and balanced regulation that empowers all players, not just the largest, to contribute to Europe's digital future. Transatel advocates for a forward-looking policy approach that safeguards open markets, ensures equitable access to infrastructure and spectrum, and fosters a vibrant ecosystem of operators, innovators, and consumers across Europe
