Fitness check of the EU legislation on violence against women and domestic violence

Justice and fundamental rights

Violence against women remains common in the Member States. The Commission launches this fitness check to gather evidence for further work. The fitness check assesses the role of existing EU legislation in preventing and combatting violence against women and domestic violence and analyses the coherence of EU measures with international sources. It identifies legislative gaps and analyses the need for further steps towards improved protection against this kind of gender-based discrimination.
