Proton welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the European Commission's call for evidence for the impact assessment on retention of data by service providers for criminal proceedings. Proton is a European company that builds a secure, privacy-first ecosystem of tools for secure communications. Our products include Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Pass and Proton Drive, among others and are all secured thanks to end-to-end encryption. We are present in more than 180 countries, and we help keep more than 100 million users and over 50000 businesses safe online. In the context of this call for evidence, we would like to share with the European Commission in the document attached several core principles and concerns that we believe are important to keep in mind when it comes to data retention for electronic communication providers.
