Response to Electrification Action Plan

9 Oct 2025

Prysmian welcomes the European Commissions initiative to develop an Electrification Action Plan. As a global leader in cable systems for energy and telecommunications, Prysmian plays a pivotal role in enabling electrification and strengthening power grid infrastructure across Europe and globally. Electrification is a key driver of decarbonisation and energy transition. For this reason, Prysmian recommends the following priorities: -Increase the Electrification of Final Energy Consumption: It is essential to expand access to electricity for the population and increase the share of energy consumption powered by electricity. This includes advancing the deployment of electrified end-use technologies across residential, commercial, industrial and transport sectors, replacing fossil-fuel-based systems with electric alternatives that offer higher efficiency and lower emissionssuch as for example electric thermal systems, electrified cooking appliances, and zero-emission mobility solutions. This trend is already underway, supported by the growing production of clean energy. However, this clean energy must be made more accessible to end users. As highlighted in the European Commissions Grid Action Plan, improving grid infrastructure is crucial to ensure that renewable electricity reaches consumers efficiently and reliably. -Support the Trend Toward Electrification Through Innovation and Digitalisation: Prysmian believes it is vital to continue the trajectory of improving energy efficiency, especially in industrial sectors where energy use is intensive. Sustainable innovation and digitalisation play a fundamental role in developing solutions to enhance grid, ensure more reliable and secure access to electricity, and enable smarter energy management, process optimisation, and waste reduction, including through the deployment of smart buildings that actively contribute to system efficiency. These advancements not only reduce overall consumption but also enhance system flexibility and resiliencekey components of a modern electrified energy landscape. -Build a European Ecosystem Across the Entire Value Chain: To conclude, to achieve effective electrification, Europe should foster an integrated ecosystem involving all stakeholders in the value chain: equipment manufacturers and their suppliers, network installers, grid operators, and end users. A shared vision across this ecosystem is essential to drive innovation, investment, and coordinated action. A European-based value chain for electrification is essential to ensure energy independence and security, enhance Europes industrial competitiveness, and create mechanisms that support long-term investment while protecting strategic infrastructure. The Electrification Action Plan can play a strategic role in promoting this alignment, facilitating dialogue among stakeholders, and guiding industrial and infrastructure policies. Prysmian reaffirms its commitment to supporting the European Commission in shaping and implementing the Electrification Action Plan. We offer our expertise and experience to contribute to a fair, sustainable, and competitive energy transition.
