Response to Promoting sustainability in consumer after-sales

24 May 2023

Refurbed, the fastest-growing marketplace for refurbished products in the DACH region and leading marketplace in Ireland, Sweden and Denmark, welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the long-awaited Right to Repair proposal. We aim to make the refurbed idea known throughout Europe and contribute to a more sustainable world. We, therefore, appreciate the EU's efforts to promote a circular economy and fully support the introduction of legislation on a right to repair. Please find our detailed feedback in the attached document. In it, we are focussing on five key areas: 1. Design for repairability 2. Ban practices that hinder repair 3. Access to spare parts and repair information 4. Fair and proportionate pricing 5. Obligation to repair The current linear model of production, consumption and waste processing is not sustainable - many of the resources we depend on are finite. Their exploitation is pushing us to our planets boundaries and destroying our livelihoods. To counteract this, a transition to a circular economy is necessary. The right to repair is an essential milestone for this transition. Repairing and reusing appliances should not only be an option but become the new norm in Europe. We thank the Commission for the opportunity to provide our feedback on this proposal and for taking our concerns and comments into consideration. Refurbed stands ready to engage further on this very important topic.

Response to Initiative on EU taxonomy - environmental objective

3 May 2023

Refurbed, the fastest-growing marketplace for refurbished products in DACH, welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the Taxonomy Regulation. Our goal is to make the refurbed idea known throughout Europe and thereby contribute to a more sustainable world. By giving waste or second-hand products a new life, we are already implementing a circular economic model. We are thereby directly contributing to our transition to a circular economy and will focus our feedback on this aspect of the Taxonomy. Our comments are thus referring to Annex II, section 5.1. Repair, refurbishment and remanufacturing, section 5.2. Sale of spare parts, section 5.4. Sale of second-hand goods, section 5.6. Marketplace for the trade of second-hand goods for reuse, as well as section 2.3. Collection and transport of non-hazardous and hazardous waste. Please find our detailed comments and proposals in the attached document. We thank you for taking our proposals into consideration. The Taxonomy is a great opportunity to ensure that we meet our environmental objectives and transform our economy into a circular model. We need to ensure to make the best of it. Refurbed stands ready to engage further on this very important topic.

Response to Sustainable Products Initiative

15 Jun 2022

refurbedTM is a marketplace for circular products. Our mission is to build the leading platform for sustainable products and services. refurbed provides : - Refurbished electronic devices, combining the quality and security of a new product with the sustainability and low price of a used one (40% cheaper, 70% less CO2, 12-month warranty). - Sustainable textiles made with 50% recycled materials along thorough transparency (e.g. location of suppliers) and sustainable (e.g. labels) criteria. An enabling regulatory framework is critical for the refurbishment sector to unleash its full potential and help create a circular economy. In our position paper (see attached), refurbed would like to present concrete proposals for targeted improvements in the Commission’s proposals, such as : - Setting operational definitions for refurbishment, remanufacturing, spare parts - Setting criteria and obligations for the refurbishment sector - Removing barriers to refurbishment (spare parts characteristics, interoperability software/hardware) - Diverting unsold products to economic services in line with the waste hierarchy - Providing economic incentives for refurbished products Please find attached our Position paper which further elaborates on these proposals.
