Response to EU Ports Strategy
23 Jul 2025
The Terminal Industry Committee 4.0 (TIC4.0), an international non-profit association that brings together global container terminal operators, port equipment manufacturers, and digital solution providers, welcomes the European Commissions initiative to develop a comprehensive EU Ports Strategy. TIC4.0 strongly supports the Strategys objectives of enhancing the competitiveness, sustainability, resilience, and security of European ports, and appreciates the opportunity to contribute to this consultation. TIC4.0 was established to promote innovation and digital transformation in the terminal sector through the development of standardized definitions and data models for port terminal operations. The associations work aims to enable seamless data interoperability among all stakeholders involved in terminal activities, reduce digital fragmentation, and provide a common language to support smart decision-making oriented to more efficient operations as well as safe and sustainable. We believe that the EU Ports Strategy offers a timely and strategic opportunity to accelerate the digital transformation of European ports, which is essential to address many of the key challenges identified in the Commissions document. Digitalization is not only a means to improve operational efficiency; it is a critical enabler for decarbonization, cybersecurity, infrastructure resilience, and the integration of new energy systems and transport modes. Please see document attached with the complete feedback from TIC4.0.

The Terminal Industry Committee 4.0 (TIC4.0), an international non-profit association representing global container terminal operators, port equipment manufacturers, and digital solution providers, welcomes the European Commissions initiative to develop a forward-looking EU Industrial Maritime Strategy. We strongly support the Strategys objectives to enhance the competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of Europes maritime manufacturing and technological base and appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this important consultation. TIC4.0 plays a unique role in the maritime ecosystem by defining and promoting digital and operational standards for port terminal activities. Our mission is to foster interoperability, accelerate digital transformation, and support the development and deployment of tools that make port terminals more efficient, sustainable, and safe. The work we carry out enables smarter logistics, boosts productivity, reduces environmental impact, and strengthens the resilience of terminal operations across Europe and globally. We believe the EU Industrial Maritime Strategy must recognize and support the terminal sector as a strategic component of the broader maritime industry value chain. Maritime and inland port terminals are not only critical nodes for multimodal logistics and international trade; they are also complex industrial environments where advanced machinery, automation, robotics, electrification, and digital technologies converge. Europes port equipment manufacturers are at the forefront of these innovations, contributing significantly to the industrial strength and competitiveness of the EU maritime sector. Please see document attached with the complete feedback from TIC4.0
