Response to Regulation complementing EU type-approval legislation with regard to the UK withdrawal from the EU (Brexit preparedness)

9 May 2018

SMMT supports the Commission’s regulatory initiative to implement an efficient administrative mechanism that will enable the transfer of UK issued approvals to an EU-27 Member State, preventing those affected manufacturers from having to replicate the full approval process. SMMT believes no manufacturer should be disadvantaged or face additional regulatory burden due to the fact they originally obtained a type approval from the UK authority. SMMT therefore encourages the urgent publication of this Commission proposal so to provide manufacturers greater clarity, allowing them to make effective businesses decisions in the months leading to Brexit. Please find attached SMMT's full response to the Commission legislative proposal.

Response to Improving the emissions legislation for Light Duty Vehicles

5 Apr 2018

SMMT welcomes the opportunity to respond to the European Commission’s public consultation on “Improving the emissions legislation for Light Duty Vehicles” and the intended clarifications and improvements made to the emissions legislation in the draft text. We appreciate the amount of effort from the European Commission and the other stakeholders in the development and drafting of this proposal. The UK automotive industry has contributed positively to the discussions on these issues and will continue to do so in the future to ensure that this legislation is clear, robust, proportionate and above all, effective. To this end, we would also like to make some further observations and requests for amendments which can be found in the attached document.
