Type-approval of vehicles with regard to their Emergency Lane keeping system (ELKS)

Single market

Regulation 2019/2144 requires all new models of passenger cars and vans to be equipped with an Emergency lane keeping system (ELKS) from July 2022 and all new cars and vans from July 2024. ELKS assists the driver in keeping a safe position of the vehicle with respect to the lane or road boundary, at least when a lane departure occurs or is about to occur and a collision might be imminent. This initiative provides the performance requirements and tests for the approval of vehicles with ELKS.
