Response to International Digital Strategy

19 May 2025

MFE-MEDIAFOREUROPE (MFE) welcomes the opportunity to provide comments on the call for evidence on the Joint Communication to steer the EUs external digital policy. As a commercial broadcaster active on the Italian, Spanish and German market, MFE is well positioned to understand the dynamics and challenges that the sector is currently facing on a global market. In times when a new economic world order is in the making, MFE welcomes the fact that the European principles and values upheld in regulations such as the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act or the European Media Freedom Act, among others, are also reflected in the declaration World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) adopted in May by representatives of 77 nations. The declaration acknowledges the shared view of the critical role of media and entertainment in promoting development and harmony. The signatories commit to protecting and promoting cultural heritage, celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity, supporting the creation and distribution of public interest content and ensuring that local knowledge remains accessible in a global media market. Furthermore, the declaration affirms the value of fair and open markets that protect intellectual property while encouraging the responsible use of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). It is recognised that AI can enhance market efficiency, creativity and audience engagement if its ethical use is ensured. The press release is available here: https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2126127 The full declaration is available here and attached: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fe5UBORuhvfxVRw-TUdEnuMfYmbUyIDt/view
