Better protecting sharks through sustainable fishing and trade

In response to the European Citizens’ Initiative “Stop Finning – Stop the Trade”, the Commission is considering measures to step up shark protection, including the possibility for sharks to only be commercialised, be it for consumption within the EU or for international trade, with their fins attached. Any potential Commission’s initiatives will be formulated considering the results of an assessment of environmental, social and economic impacts of such measures.
