Competition

The evaluation of the EU antitrust procedural rules was completed in September 2024. Based on that evaluation, the present initiative aims to revise the EU antitrust procedural rules to ensure the effectiveness of the framework for the enforcement of the EU’s rules on fair competition.

They call for legal professional privilege to cover in-house counsel and faster proceedings with clear deadlines. They support stronger coordination between national authorities to ensure consistent enforcement.
This would protect sensitive business information from disclosure and reduce legal uncertainty.
Enforcement authorities lose faster access to evidence needed to investigate anticompetitive conduct.

EuroCommerce opposes stricter national competition rules fragmenting Single Market

EuroCommerce, 2 Oct 2025

The organization requests abolishing Article 3(2) of Regulation 1/2003 to discontinue stricter national laws on unilateral conduct. They argue such differences constitute barriers for a unified Single Market and hinder cross-border trade.
This would reduce their compliance burden from increasingly complex national rules.

EDF Opposes Changes to EU Antitrust Enforcement Rules
