Response to European Partnership for Safe and Automated Road Transport

20 Aug 2019

AVL is active in the road transport sector in the view of development of software methods and tools for autonomous transport. Furthermore, AVL provides test methods as well as equipment for the development and optimization of systems. Therefore, we are a member of a test lab called Alp.Lab, located close to Graz (Austria), as well as parnter in several EU funded R&D projects in the field of ICT as well as electronic systems in the Joint Undertaking ECSEL. We prefer a co-programmed partnership (option 1) to keep the speed, the flexibility as well as the openness to universities, SMEs, start-ups as well as Tier 1, OEMs and research providers. We are a member of EGVIA and we find this approach is a very useful one with less adminsitrative burdens. Regarding the link between this proposal and other partnership proposals, AVL would like to stress the importance of ensuring coordination between the different initiatives. Especially with the partnership towards zero emission mobility, the two fields have numerous common topics and synergies to be exploited: the EC should not create silos between these two key innovation challenges that decarbonisation and digitalisation are for the future of mobility. We also need coordination with partnerships that provide enabling technologies for CCAM, such as electronics and smart systems (ECSEL), 5G, Cyber-Security, HPC, AI. Regarding the involvement of Member States, in addition to their involvement in the Programme Committee, interactions need to be deepened, as the infrastructures are often managed at a national level and shall be developed in line with the developments happening on the vehicle side. The goal is to support a coordinated approach between the automotive sector and road managers towards an efficient deployment of CCAM.

Response to Proposal to create a cybersecurity competence network with a European Cybersecurity Research and Competence Centre

11 Apr 2018

We regard Option 2 – a Centre based on Art.173 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and Art.58 and 208 of Regulation 966/2012 (Financial Regulation) as a viable step to multiply capabilities, connect experts, and foster talents to address many of the cybersecurity challenges specific to the automotive industry.
