EU countries are required by the Marine Strategy Framework Directive to develop strategies to achieve 'good environmental status' to have clean, healthy and productive seas by 2020. This initiative will assess the achievements and shortcomings of the framework, investigate options for improvement and propose amendments, if necessary.
