Revision of EU rules on food contact materials

Food safety

The EU legislation on food contact materials will be revised to modernise existing rules, to allow for the latest science and technology to be taken into account; to reduce the presence and use of hazardous chemicals and ensure food safety and a high level of protection of citizens’ health. It will also support the reduction of the environmental footprint of the sector, through innovative and sustainable solutions, promoting the use and safety of re-usable and recyclable materials.
