Measures to better manage and coordinate international rail traffic to increase the modal share of rail

In line with the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, sustainable alternatives must be made available in a seamless multimodal mobility system. Increasing the share of rail is key for making EU transport sustainable and resilient. To this end the access to rail infrastructure, especially for international freight, needs to be improved. The Commission will propose measures to better manage, coordinate and thereby increase the capacity of international freight and passenger rail.
