The proposal aims to provide an EU framework for transparent and science-based information to EU consumers on the level of welfare of food producing animals. It aims to enable consumers to make sustainable food choices. It also aims at encouraging business operators of the food supply chain to implement better animal welfare standards through fairer competition and better economic returns.
